Kevin Finlay said Mixon was attacked by “a very intoxicated and troubled young woman.”

“As a result of these physical attacks, Joe instinctually defended himself against further harm,” Finlay wrote in a statement obtained by SoonerScoop.com.

The woman, 20-year-old Amelia Molitor, suffered facial fractures as a result of Mixon’s punch.

SoonerScoop.com reported that Mixon asked Norman police Monday to charge Molitor with assault and battery. Mixon made the request while giving a statement to police.

Mixon’s attorneys, meanwhile, met with the Cleveland County district attorney’s office to review surveillance video of the incident, according to SoonerScoop.com.

No arrests have been made in the case.

SoonerScoop.com also reported that a bench warrant was issued for Molitor’s arrest the day before the incident.

“The bench warrant was issued for misdemeanor possession of controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia. The warrant was issued July 24, 2014,” Meghan McCormick, public information officer for the Cleveland County sheriff’s department, told SoonerScoop.com. “She could be arrested at a later time.”

As to why Molitor was not arrested at the restaurant, McCormick told SoonerScoop.com: “Misdemeanor warrants are not entered into the National Crime Information Center database. That could be the reason why she was not arrested at the scene.”

SoonerScoop.com reported that Molitor declined to comment, on advice of counsel.
