“I’ve been really leaning towards that for two weeks now,” Malzahn told reporters ( via the Ledger-Enquirer ). “I’m turning it over to him. He’ll do a good job, I thought he did a fantastic job tonight. I need to be the head coach and that’s what I’m going to be. I’m looking forward to Rhett building this offense.”

All of Auburn’s points came on field goals, but the offense tallied 388 total yards, just above Auburn’s 370 yards per game average for last season. The winning feeling was enough for Malzahn to make the call.

“I thought (Lashlee) did a really good job,” Malzahn said. “We had a lot of field goals, so we need to work on getting the ball into the end zone. I thought he did a solid job against a good defense.”

Lashlee, 33, has a much less daunting task next week against Louisiana-Monroe.
