The Spaniard takes on Argentina’s Federico Delbonis, the world No. 76, in the closing game of the night session at the Rod Laver Arena after breezing through the first round.

Nadal, whose only Australian Open title came in 2009, dropped just five games as he dismantled Bolivia’s Hugo Bellien 6-2, 6-3, 6-0 on Tuesday.

“For me personally, it has been a very positive start,” the world No. 1 said after the match.

“What you want is to win in the first round, and if you can do it in straight sets, even better.”

Like Nadal, Delbonis also won his first match in straight sets, defeating Portugal’s Joao Sousa 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).

Meanwhile, Medvedev will face Spanish qualifier Pedro Martinez after a testing first-round match against Frances Tiafoe.

It took the world No. 4, who lost the U.S. Open to Nadal last year, over two hours to have the better of the American, eventually winning 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

“I felt like I had got the momentum and straight away he was coming back,” the Russian told reporters in his post-match press conference.

“For the first round, it’s a big win and I’m really happy.”

Meanwhile, women’s world No. 2 Pliskova takes on Germany’s Laura Siegemund in the day’s second match at the Rod Laver Arena.

The Czech, a U.S. Open finalist in 2016, has reached at least the quarterfinals in six of the last 16 Grand Slam tournaments, but is still searching for her first major title.

Here’s everything you need to know to keep up with the second-round action.
