In a new statement posted to social media, Max shared her condolences and devastation toward gun violence.

“I am devastated at the shooting that happened after our show in Philly,” the star writes.

“I don’t know what this country has come to. Everywhere we go we are terrified. We are traumatized. This needs to end. I pray everyone stays safe in the upcoming shows and events,” she concludes.

The suspect has yet to be identified and brought into custody.

The “Wawa Welcome America” concert took place on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway on the Fourth of July with special musical guests. In the past, Boyz II Men, Jennifer Hudson, Nicki Minaj, Elton John and Patti Labelle have performed. This year, along with Max, Jason Derulo and Tori Kelly were also guests.

Around 9:50 p.m. while everyone was watching the fireworks to end the event, two police officers working the festivities were shot near the Philadelphia Art Museum. After the crowd heard the gunshots, hysteria broke out and videos went viral as people run away from the scene.

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney tweeted about the July 4 shooting, “Tonight’s shooting on the Parkway is a truly horrific incident for our city. I’m deeply grateful that the two officers were not gravely injured, and they have been treated and released from the hospital.

“We will continue to do everything we can to combat our city’s gun violence–including taking a record number of guns off the streets–but we are fighting an uphill battle. We are pleading with lawmakers to help us stop the flow of guns into our city,” he continued.

Many shootings occurred on July 4 this year.

The city of Minneapolis also faced a mass shooting during a Fourth of July fireworks event where eight people were shot at Boom Island Park.

“After shots were fired, the large group that had gathered in the park dispersed, many leaving prior to police arriving. A majority of the shooting victims later arrived at local hospitals on their own, where police were notified by the hospitals. As of early this morning, eight victims had been hospitalized, several in critical condition. At this time, the age, gender and current conditions of the victims is not available… No arrests have been made at this time,” Dawn Sommers, director of communications and marketing at Minneapolis Park Police said.

In Highland Park, Illinois, seven people were killed and more than a dozen others were injured after shots were fired during a Fourth of July parade. The man linked to the shooting, Robert E. Crimo III, has been taken into custody. A 2-year-old, Aiden McCarthy was orphaned in the shooting after his parents, Irina and Kevin McCarthy, were killed.

“What happened in Highland Park happens across Illinois and the nation: communities torn apart by our uniquely American plague of gun violence. I’m furious. It doesn’t have to be this way, yet we allow it. May the memories of those lost be a blessing – and a call to action,” Illinois Governor, JB Pritzker tweeted.
