Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) officers were alerted to reports of gunshots close to East 26th Street and Hardesty Avenue at about 1:45 p.m. on Monday, September 27.

When police arrived at the home, they found one adult had been fatally shot while another had been taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police added a child under the age of 5 was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, while another child was not harmed.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, a database that collects information about shootings from across the U.S., 14 people have been fatally shot in Kansas City, Missouri, since September 1 this year.

Officials did not comment on whether the victims were related to one another.

Police confirmed on Monday the young victim who was shot had succumbed to her injuries on Sunday.

She was identified as 2-month-old Desiree Bowden. An investigation into her death has been launched.

Police said they are not looking for any suspects, but did not go into further details.

According to the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, hundreds of Americans are affected by shootings each day.

The organization said on average 321 people on average are shot in the U.S. every day and that of those 111 are killed.

In August, a 4-year-old girl was found shot dead in a car backseat on a Georgia highway, according to the DeKalb Police Department.

When officers arrived at I-85 on North Druid Hills Road in Atlanta, they found the girl had died as a result of her injuries. No one else was harmed.

In July a one-year-old was killed following a shooting in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The child was taken to the hospital where the child was pronounced dead. A 7-year-old child who had also been shot was later treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

In January, an 11-month-old baby girl was shot in the face by a stray bullet according to New York police.

The baby had been sitting in a parked car with her mother in the Broz while her father was in a nearby deli.

On the same street, a man armed with a gun fired two shots at another man who he had been chasing. One bullet flew past and struck the girl in the cheek.
