Netanyahu began the year lagging Shimon Peres in the polls. Ironically, he was saved by radical Palestinian fundamentalists. Without the spate of suicide bombings that rocked Jerusalem and Tel Aviv last winter, Netanyahu might still be leader of the opposition.
Netanyahu’s tenure has had its troubles. The opening of a tunnel in Jerusalem’s Old City triggered the worst explosion of Palestinian violence since the height of the intifada. But hey, Bibi will still be prime minister when the 21st century rolls around.
