First responders are searching for people who were trapped in an explosion that leveled multiple row homes in Baltimore, Maryland, killing at least one person and critically injuring multiple others.

Firefighters rescued at least three people, all in critical condition, according to a tweet from the Baltimore Firefighters IAFF Local 734. Special Rescue Operations were also called to the scene of three destroyed row homes on Monday and were beginning search and rescue operations to locate other people who may have been injured in the explosion.

One person was pronounced dead on the scene, according to IAFF Local 734, and rescuers were communicating with someone who was still trapped.

It’s unclear at this time what caused the explosion.

Newsweek reached out to the Baltimore Fire Department for comment but did not receive a response in time for publication.
