The video, which was viewed nearly 400,000 times since it was shared on March 22, showed the deer scattering in front of Dublin’s Irish Pub. One lept through the window, and the other members of the herd ran in different directions as the video ended.
According to the Humane Rescue Alliance, deer can be easily frightened. The organization encourages people to give deer space to move around and find a way to move away from an area on their own as trying to help them may result in a difficult situation.
“Another hazard to deer are windows, especially during the fall months when deer are looking for a mate,” the agency reported. “Bucks will become territorial during this time. They have been known to crash through windows after seeing their reflection and believing it is a challenging male.”
The pub also shared some photos of what the window looked like after the deer jumped through it.
The deer left a sizeable hole in the window and shattered glass on the floor. A third photo showed that the window was boarded up.
Mark Rutkowski, the pub’s operations director, told Newsweek that only staff was inside the establishment when the deer broke through the window.
The bartender was in the restaurant section of the pub and assumed some glasses broke before they realized a deer was inside.
“They chased it around the bar a little bit and it ran out another door,” Rutkowski said.
It was a quick incident, and he said the deer was inside no longer than two minutes. Aside from the window, nothing was broken.
Many Facebook viewers tagged their friends to watch the viral clip while others shared their thoughts on the situation.
“Venison on the menu now?” one commenter asked jokingly.
“I mean your Shepherd’s Pie is good, but it’s not ‘smash-through-the-window-to-get-some’ good,” a viewer quipped.
Wrote another: “Imagine just chillin’ having a bloody and a deer comes launching through the window.”
Some expressed their sympathy for the deer that jumped through the glass window.
“Seriously, I hope everyone and the deer are all OK?” a Facebook user wrote.
“This makes me so sad,” commented another viewer. “Sorry for your window but how sad for the deer.”
There have been several instances of deer winding up in places they don’t typically belong.
Newsweek previously reported that footage from a security camera caught the moment that a deer jumped through a store’s back window in Massachusetts. It ran through the store before it escaped through the glass front door.
A woman shared her account of discovering an injured deer that broke into her house, leaving blood on her floor. One Walmart employee was seen in a viral video tackling a deer that nearly made it inside the store.
