When the Philippines Basketball Association forward lost his shoe in the middle of a game, he didn’t panic. He picked up the shoe, ran back down the court to get on defense and then attempted to use the footwear to block a shot.

It almost worked, too. He didn’t actually make contact with the ball, but there’s no doubt the big sneaker kept his opponent from taking it to the rack.
According to PBA operations director Rickie B. Santos, the Maierhofer could’ve been whistled for a technical foul, as using a “foreign object” in a live play is against the rules. But the PBA player wasn’t worried about it.
“I think it’s a smart play,” Maierhofer said.
