Stuttgarter Zeitung claimed on Tuesday that the highly rated 22-year-old was certain to leave Bayern in the summer due to a lack of minutes under Carlo Ancelotti, with RB Leipzig and Manchester City battling to sign him.
Will Pep clear out ‘Argentinian Blues’?
Kimmich played for Leipzig for two seasons in the second and third division before joining Bayern, where he rose to prominence under now-City boss Pep Guardiola.
The German champions, however, insist that there is no question that the man tipped by many to be Philipp Lahm’s successor will be at the Allianz Arena next season.
“That’s an outrageous hoax,” chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said in a statement published on the Bayern website. “This story misses every base.
“Joshua Kimmich has a contract until 2020 and will definitely play for Bayern next season.”
The statement adds: “Bayern Munich will immediately take legal action against the Stuttgart newspaper.”
After making 15 starts and racking up 1,423 minutes in the Bundesliga last season, Kimmich made another 15 starts and slightly increased his minutes total to 1,462 during the current campaign.
‘Lahm for Footballer of the Year’
He admitted he was “not satisfied” with his playing time in March, however, having been in and out of the team since December after a start to the season which saw him net eight goals for club and country by mid-October.
Kimmich has frequently been compared to Lahm due to his ability to play at right-back and in central midfield, and he was also deployed at centre-back under Guardiola.
