The waiver mentioned in the latter tweet would be required because the proposed game would be played one week before the NCAA’s regular start of games, typically the Thursday before Labor Day.

The Bears and Golden Bears have met three times, most recently in 2002.  That marked the first meeting between the programs since the mid-1950s.
