McLane Stadium, a $266 million facility, opened last week, and among all its bells and whistles is a recruiting suite at field level in the corner of the northwest end zone. It’s reserved for recruits across all sports and their families to gather for Baylor home games.
Those individuals have a view to pregame activities looking through a glass wall to the field. Per NCAA rules, those recruits must leave the suite before kickoff and watch the game from their designated seats, according to officials involved in the stadium project.
The recruiting suite strays a bit from the school’s traditional kelly green and gold color scheme. Inside this room, the accents include a flashier neon green in part to grab the attention of would-be Bears.
The same is true for the row of Xbox displays and the big screen television in the center of the room. Food and drink is available but the recruits and their families must pay for their meals.
For Populous, the stadium’s architect, it is the first time the firm has designed a field-level space specifically for college recruits, company officials said. After other schools see it in action, it’s safe to say it won’t be the last one included in a stadium development.
