Bayonetta 3, like Devil May Cry before it, features a mixture of different characters you can take control of from time to time. Bayonetta herself is the main protagonist of course—the game carries her name, after all—but this adventure is such a sprawling one that she needs a little assistance from time to time.
Just because you can swap between characters at certain points doesn’t mean the game loses any of its lustre. There are some particularly awesome characters you’ll get to know as you make your way through the game, one that you’ve not met before the third installment of the series, and one that’s very dear to Cereza herself.
Wondering about what the playable character situation is like in Bayonetta 3? How many playable characters are there? Read on for the answer.
All Playable Characters in Bayonetta 3
There are three playable characters in Bayonetta 3. Unlike some games, where you can swap between different characters at will, that is not the case with this game. Instead, you’ll find that perspectives in the game will occasionally change as you work to complete the storyline. But you will get to play as these three character options as you make your way through.
Bayonetta
The titular heroine and Witch of Genesis is tall, powerful and in charge. In addition to controlling time with her Witch Time ability, she can summon a Demon Slave to do her bidding in the middle of battle. She also wields a variety of weapons, such as those attached to her boots and the two she wields during combat. Throughout the game, you’ll also meet different versions of Bayonetta as well as alternative appearances.
Viola
Viola is a brand-new character to the Bayonetta series. She’s a witch in training who finds herself completely caught up in traveling from dimension to dimension with different versions of Bayonetta. Her garish makeup and punk rock aesthetic set her apart from Bayonetta’s sultry sophistication, but she’s also clumsy and still trying to learn. She still has plenty of abilities at her disposal, though.
Jeanne
Jeanne has been in the Bayonetta series from the very beginning. She’s an Umbra Witch just like Bayonetta, having survived the witch hunts in the game’s lore from 300 years ago. She’s Bayonetta’s best friend, and they continue to save each other’s lives again and again. With that in mind, Jeanne plays similarly to her best friend and feels close to her in terms of combat. She’s the seasoned veteran you’d definitely want by your side.
Bayonetta 3 is available now exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
