Max was left in the shelter’s parking lot by his owner, who simply walked him to the side of the building and left.
But Max is now recovering, on medication from a stretched ligament, in a “loving home.” The location however has been kept secret, in fear of his previous owners discovering Max’s whereabouts.
“Today I got an update on Max. Max was the beagle that was dumped in the parking lot of our shelter,” wrote the Humane Society of Wicomico County in a social media post. “He was painful and distraught watching his owner drive away.
“In come the angels. Doggone Happy Animal Rescue Inc scooped him up and put him into a loving home. All he needed were some meds for what they think is a stretched ligament. He only knows love now and this is why we do what we do.”
The photo showed Max happily laid back in his new safe living room, the location of which was purposely omitted. “I am not tagging his family because I never want his owner to know where he is but they know how special they are,” noted the shelter.
Max came to the shelter on February 22 at around 8 a.m when a car dumped him. “They walked him out of the car up to the side of the building and left. The dog was trying to follow them back to the car and was crying.”
The beagle arrived with his name handwritten on his blue collar, and the shelter pleaded for anyone with information on his owners to come forward.
Almost immediately, Max was rushed to a local foster home with the help of Doggone Happy Animal Rescue Inc.
“Not all humans are losers buddy, you don’t know it yet, but you have hit the jackpot,” wrote a shelter worker in a Facebook post. “You’ll be in one of your mommys’ laps tonight being rocked.”
“For now it’s a cool comfy bed and blanket and a quick ride to your foster home. It makes me sick and so sad that he’s so nervous in my truck because his last car ride landed with him being dumped. Those days are done Max.”
Local community members reveled in the good news of Max’s new home, as updated this week by the shelter.
“God Bless him ~ living his best life and God Bless all involved in this sweethearts journey to his forever home,” wrote one local woman.
