The focus will be on the quarterbacks in this matchup, but there is plenty to consider out from under center that may impact what each signal-caller is able to achieve on Sunday evening – particularly on Chicago’s side.
For the Bears, Cutler is on the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook’s board for 22.5 completions and 1.5 passing touchdowns. Cutler completed 34 of 49 attempts and tossed two touchdowns against the Buffalo Bills in Week 1. Strong numbers for sure, but against a much friendlier defense. A lot of people like to lump Cutler and Tony Romo together for their gun-slinging, error-prone ways, and if you like that comparison, consider Romo completed 23 passes against this Niners’ defense with one touchdown.
We’d recommend only using those numbers from last week as a sketch, something to give you a hint of the bigger picture.
The piece of info that will be far more telling heading into Sunday night will be the status of Bears wide receivers Alshon Jeffery (hamstring) and Brandon Marshall (ankle), who suffered injuries in Week 1. Both are listed as questionable, and bettors will want to make sure they know each one’s gametime status prior to placing any wagers.
In the 11 games Cutler started (excluding Week 7 at Washington where he only attempted eight passes before leaving with an injury) since 2013, he’s gone OVER 22.5 completions five times and has thrown at least two touchdowns eight times. Even against a tough defense like the 49ers, the OVER on 1.5 touchdown passes looks like a solid bet if - emphasis on ‘if’ - Cutler has a full complement of pass-catchers.
