Tricia Helfer, who played the villainous Cylon known as Number Six, returns to serve with hosting duties.
The marathon event begins at noon on Monday and is set to end on Thursday, April 23. And if 76 episodes aren’t enough for you, Syfy is also airing the two TV movies set within the Battlestar universe: Razor and The Plan. You can also bet on there being some special guests joining Helfer throughout the marathon.
Launched in 2004, Battlestar Galactica is a reboot of the original TV series of the same name, which ran from 1978 into 1979. In the more recent series, humans live within a system of planets called the Twelve Colonies, and have a violent history of warfare against a warrior robot race known as Cylons. The show, which ran for four seasons and concluded in 2009, was heavy with social commentary on issues that were on the minds of many people throughout the 2000s, including terrorism and torture. Along with Helfer, the show starred Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell, among others.
Two years ago, Helfer spoke about the show’s real-world parallels to TV Insider. She said, “I was actually kind of blown away when I started the rewatch when I started this podcast, of how relevant it is. I guess, when you’re talking themes of human survival, but war, and politics.”
“It took me by surprise by how relevant some of the themes were 15 years later than when we filmed them,” she added. “And I guess it’s just a testament of maybe we never learn, as humans, and we keep going through the same cycles, the same issues, because we’re not really learning. And maybe 50 years from now, it’ll still be as relevant.”
At the very least, it’ll still be relevant throughout Syfy’s three-day marathon.
