Police released a photo Wednesday. It is indeed Pagan, who was at the game and has deleted his Twitter account — and while he can’t say much about the issue, he turned himself in Wednesday and spoke to the Toronto Sun, which is owned (naturally) by Postmedia.
He implied, heavily, that he was misidentified — so this isn’t going to end anytime soon. It’s either a media member acting about as badly as possible, or Toronto police leading a witch hunt (except for beer-can-hurling, not witchcraft). They say in their description that the man in the photo threw the beer. The man in the photo, like we established, is Pagan. He said it himself.
“I was drinking out of a cup,” Pagan told the Sun. “I’d love to tell you what happened and my story … but I can’t say anything.”
There are, indeed, photos of Pagan with a cup in his hand, not a can, and plenty of Zapruder-ish fan videos that suggest someone other than him is guilty.
There’s also this.
In any case, someone acted like a jackass and threw a full can of beer at Orioles left fielder Hyun Soo Kim. Pagan had made arrangements to turn himself in and hasn’t been charged with anything.
MLB, the Blue Jays and the mayor of Toronto all called to have the beer-chucker arrested, and Postmedia itself offered a $1,000 reward. Irony is reward enough, though.
