Berto’s (31-5, 24 KOs) only fought twice since losing to Floyd Mayweather back in Sept. 2015: a fourth-round knockout win vs. Victor Ortiz, and a lopsided ninth-round TKO loss to Shawn Porter.

Alexander (27-4-1, 14 KOs), also a former junior welterweight titleholder, returned for his second bout after a 25-month layoff in February and fought Ortiz to a controversial draw, in a fight many felt Alexander won going away.
