The “Wind Beneath My Wings” singer has been celebrating the end of the Trump era on Twitter following Joe Biden’s inauguration last week.
Posting to her two million followers on Wednesday, Midler tweeted: “Seeing reports that the mood around Mar-a-Lago is dark, and that it isn’t as ’lively’ as it was before.”
She mocked: “Um, have you ever seen pictures of that place? It looks like a funeral home for funeral homes.”
Midler’s statement comes amid reports that the resort—once nicknamed the Winter White House—is seeing its members leave en masse to avoid being associated with Trump.
“It’s a sad place… it’s not what it was,” Laurence Leamer, historian and author of Mar-a-Lago: Inside the Gates of Power at Donald Trump’s Presidential Palace, told MSNBC host Alex Witt on Weekends with Alex Witt Saturday.
Leamer said that members had told him they “silently walked out” of the club following Trump’s failed reelection bid.
They told the author they were “not concerned about politics and they said the food is no good.”
The former president moved to the Palm Beach, Florida, estate after his term ended last Wednesday.
“Even here, people don’t like him,” Leamer said of Palm Beach residents. “It’s just another measure of how his power has declined.”
Meanwhile, a condo complex in West Palm Beach, Florida, has voted to unanimously remove the name “Trump Plaza” from its towers, following the riots at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. on January 6.
“It’s been a long time in coming,” a Trump Plaza condo owner told The Palm Beach Post. “Most of us are relieved that the name will finally be off the buildings.”
Midler famously uses her sizable platform on Twitter to denounce the Trump administration and Republicans.
The Hocus Pocus actress previously said that the White House will need to be “fumigated” after Trump’s term.
She also referred to the former president as a “vampire” and said he needs a “stake through the heart.”
“Sometimes I think Whats-his-name is a kind of vampire and someone needs to drive a stake through his heart, so we can #breatheagain,” Midler tweeted in December. “Of course, he’s driven a lot of steak through his own heart tho, so…fingers crossed!” she added.
