“Look, there are African American men in this shot! How much did he pay them to be ‘blackground’?” the 73-year-old posted.

There was an immediate backlash from the post, with many Twitter users commenting, “That’s racist” and calling the tweet, “really sick” for implying that black voters could not make their own political decisions.

In the comments @Rodsmithonline said, “Imagine, for one moment, that a conservative said this about blacks at a liberal event. It would be rightly called out as the nasty, divisive racism it is. Black liberals: this is what they really think about your ability to think for yourselves.”

@D_B_Harrison also replied with, “Ms. Midler, that’s about as ignorant a comment as could be made in regards to that photo. Regardless your personal political persuasion, do black Americans not have the right to express theirs as individuals? Contrary to what you may think, blacks are not politically monolithic.”

“Your statement is so condescending and racist,” Glen Woodfin tweeted. And @Sammurica said: “People of different races are allowed to support whoever they want. Shocking, I know.”

The tweet remained online Thursday morning and Midler has not apologized. The president has not responded to the tweet.

This comes less than two months after President Trump called Midler as a “washed up psycho” after the actress shared a false quote attributed to him.

A regular, outspoken critic of Trump, Middler had erroneously shared the disproven quote in which Trump allegedly called Republicans the “dumbest group of voters” in a People Magazine interview in 1998. She later apologized for the mistake.

Midler then thanked those who defended her during her “personal Battle of the Bulge (with) he who must not be named.”

“Your wit and good nature really lifted my spirits; as a newly washed up psycho, I am very grateful for your thoughts and prayers,” she added.

The actress also caused controversy in November 2018 when she went after first lady Melania Trump by sharing an image from the former model’s steamy shoot with British GQ in 2000.
