The wild card round features eight teams competing in four different win-or-go-home games for the four remaining spots in the playoffs.

AFC Wild Card
Buffalo Bills vs. Houston Texans
One side of the AFC wild card matchup will feature the Buffalo Bills traveling to Houston to take on the Texans. Both teams come into the game with 10-6 records, but the Texans were given home-field advantage because they won the AFC South title. From a statistical standpoint, the two teams match up evenly. The Texans have a stronger offense, ranking 14th in the league for points per game (23.6), while the Bills come in with the second overall defense in the league, only allowing 16.2 points per game. The wide receiver position will be one to look out for during the game, with both teams producing one player with over 1,000 yards, Texans’ DeAndre Hopkins (1,165) and Bills’ John Brown (1,060). The game is set to be played Saturday, January 4 at 4:35 p.m. EST.

Tennessee Titans vs. New England Patriots
The Titans and Patriots meet on the other side of the AFC wild card round, with the Patriots coming into the game as the AFC East division winners for the 11th straight season, but it will be their first time in the wild card game since 2009. The Titans’ win over the Texans in week 17 helped them make the wild card spot, placing them in the playoffs for the second time in three seasons. The Patriots 12-4 record gives them the home field advantage over a 9-7 Titans team. The Patriots will be led by quarterback Tom Brady while the Titans can look to their running back Derrick Henry for help, who won the league’s rushing title this season. The game is set to be played Saturday, January 4 at 8:15 p.m. EST.

Minnesota Vikings vs. New Orleans Saints
On one side of the NFC wild card, the Saints will be hosting the Vikings at home. The Saints come into the game as one of the best teams in the league with a 13-3 record and the reigning NFC South division champions. They are led by quarterback Drew Brees, who has had a record-breaking season and will look to avenge their previous season where they were eliminated from the playoffs after a missed pass interference call. The Vikings led by quarterback Kirk Cousins and running back Dalvin Cook are set to make their first playoff appearance since 2017. This game will be played Sunday, January 5 at 1:05 p.m. EST.

The Seahawks and Eagles are set to face off on the other side of the NFC wild card. Despite the Seahawks better record (11-5), the Eagles (9-7) are given the home field advantage after winning the NFC East Division title. The Eagles are coming into the game on a four-game winning streak, led by young quarterback Carson Wentz. On the other side of the field, the Seahawks are led by quarterback Russell Wilson, who had an MVP caliber season with more than 30 touchdown passes and 4,000 total passing yards. The game is set to be played Sunday, January 5 at 4:40 p.m. EST.

The winners of each of these games will go on to play in the NFC or AFC Divisional round. The winners of the AFC wild card games will take on either the Baltimore Ravens or Kansas City Chiefs, with the matchups determined by the seed of the winner. In the NFC, the winners of the wild card games will be set to take on either the San Francisco 49ers or Green Bay Packers, with the seeds of the winners determining the potential matchups once again.
