According to the event’s Twitter page, Nadal cited fatigue from this past week’s play as reason for withdrawal, while Andreescu’s camp cited a schedule change.

According to Yahoo Sports, Andreescu is also wary of putting in “any extra exertion in the US Open run-up” after just returning from a shoulder injury sustained earlier this summer that had previously forced her to withdraw from Wimbledon in June.

“I really have to listen to my body right now,” Andreescu said, via Yahoo! Sports. “This last week has not been easy on it.”

The 19-year-old Andeescu, a Mississauga, Ont. native, was the first Canadian woman to win the Rogers Cup in 50 years. She beat three WTA top 10 ranked players — Serena Williams, Karolina Pliskova and Kiki Bertens — on the way to winning the trophy Sunday in Montreal.

Andeescu’s WTA ranking rose to No. 14 in the world as a result of her Rogers Cup success.

Nadal, ranked No. 2 of all men’s players worldwide, defeated 23-year-old Russian Daniil Medvedev in the Rogers Cup final Sunday to win the tournament.
