The poll, which was conducted by Civiqs, found Biden’s approval rating at 38 percent or lower in swing states such as Arizona, Georgia, Ohio and Nevada.

Brandon Rottinghaus, a political science professor at the University of Houston, told Newsweek on Monday, “Low presidential approval [numbers] make Biden a target in competitive races in these key states.”

According to the poll, in Arizona, 36 percent said that they approved of Biden’s handling of the presidency and 56 percent said they disapproved. Eight percent of respondents said they didn’t approve or disapprove, the poll found.

In the 2020 presidential election, Biden narrowly beat former President Donald Trump in Arizona, by just .3 percent of votes, according to BallotPedia. Despite Biden’s low approval rating in Arizona, some polls have found incumbent Democrat Mark Kelly slightly leading Republican candidate Blake Masters, ahead of the state’s upcoming midterm elections. A poll conducted by Suffolk University this weekend found Kelly receiving 49 percent of votes compared to the 42 percent received by Masters.

In Georgia, the Civiqs poll found 36 percent of respondents saying that they approved of Biden’s presidency while 54 percent said they disapproved. During the 2020 election, Biden beat Trump by just .2 percent of votes, according to BallotPedia.

In the state’s midterm elections, polls have shown Democratic incumbent Senator Raphael Warnock holding a slight lead over Republican candidate Herschel Walker. A Fox News poll published on September 26 found 46 percent of voters in the state supporting Warnock, while 41 percent sided with Walker.

On October 14, the two Senate candidates in Georgia are set to face off in a televised debate.

According to the Civiqs, 34 percent of Ohio voters said they approved of Biden’s presidency while 57 percent disagreed. During the 2020 presidential election, Ohio voters sided with Trump as he won the state 53.3 percent to 45.2 percent, data from BallotPedia shows.

Despite Biden’s low approval rating in Ohio, voters have appeared to be siding with the state’s Democratic Senator Tim Ryan, over the Trump-endorsed Republican candidate J.D. Vance. A recent poll conducted by Spectrum News/Siena College found Ryan leading by just 3 percentage points.

In Nevada, the Civiqs poll found 38 percent of state’s voters saying that they approve of Biden’s presidency while 54 percent said the opposite. Biden secured a victory in Nevada during the 2020 presidential election.

In the state’s midterm elections for Senate, polls have found incumbent Democrat Catherine Cortez Masto and her Republican challenger, Adam Laxalt, who is endorsed by Trump, in a tight race.

“Democratic candidates running will have to spend time on defense or avoiding questions about Biden and less time on their own messages,” Rottinghaus said, adding that “President Biden’s low approval makes it hard to persuade undecideds to vote for Democrats and makes it difficult to rally Democrats.”

Similarly, Ken Kollman, a professor of political science at the University of Michigan, told Newsweek that the poll’s results show Biden receiving a low approval rating “from white men in particular.”

“And in states with few white male Democrats, his approval ratings are quite dismal,” Kollman said.

“Surely Biden’s numbers are tied to inflation and the markets and a potential recessionary wind blowing,” Kollman said. “This is not ideal for Democrats. But it’s important to consider that disapproval of Biden is a symptom of a broader dissatisfaction with Democrats among white men, many who see the Democrats as not serving their needs.”

“On top of the problem Democrats have with white males, many voters of all demographic types are undoubtedly asking for something from the Democrats that they have failed to deliver: stable, low-inflation economic growth,” Kollman added.
