And when the reporters at the news conference started tossing questions Belichick’s way, he gave a flurry of classic Belichick non-answers.
Belichick’s behavior shouldn’t come as a surprise. The Patriots are famous for their ability to move past controversy, focus and be successful, and Belichick has never been the most colorful or quotable coach.
The most pressing question is whether to prepare for the season with Brady or Jimmy Garoppolo at quarterback. How much confidence does he have in Brady’s backup to start the year?
“It’s a new season for everyone. We all have to re-establish our level of performance whether it’s a coach – starting with me – player, assistant coach, anybody else. That’s what training camp is for. It’s a new start of the year and we all have a lot of work to do, a lot of preparation. [It’s] a long time before we play a game, but we all have a lot of ground to cover between now and then and that includes everybody – players, coaches, assistant coaches – everyone.”
Never change, Bill.
