Mazda has been collaborating with medical experts, including from the Tsukuba University Hospital, to research what a healthy driver versus an unhealthy or incapacitated driver would look like, the Japanese company told reporters. Once the Co-Pilot Concept feature detects an issue, such as the driver slumped over the steering wheel, it would stop the car on the curb of the road or another safe spot, the AP reported. The car would also make an emergency call to the police and an ambulance, honk its horn, and flash the blinker and hazard lights to alert others nearby, according to Mazda....

Police responded to a call at 3:45 p.m. to reports that several people were unconscious. Authorities said six adults and an infant were found at the North Range Crossings Apartments on East 104th Avenue, along with “illicit narcotics.” A four-month-old infant and an adult were found alive in the apartment and were both transported to a nearby hospital, police said. “While they thought that most of them were unconscious, one of the parties was awake and was transported by medical,” Commerce City Police Chief Clint Nichols said....

The multi-center Spine Patient Outcomes Research Trial (SPORT) enrolled 501 surgical candidates with severe leg pain and operated on half of them. The randomized clinical trial found that patients who had surgery and patients who did not both “improved substantially over a two-year period.” However, a second, observational trial (also in JAMA this week), in which patients chose which treatment they wanted, showed a different result.
