On Wednesday, CNN released a monthly poll that showed Sanders at the top of the crowded field of contenders for the Democratic nomination. As support for Sanders jumped to 27 percent from 20 percent in December, support for Biden fell from 26 percent to 24 percent. Increased support is always a good sign for candidates, but the poll isn’t an all-out victory for Sanders. The three percentage point margin between the two candidates is within the sampling error, and as CNN noted, there isn’t a single leader....

The Iowa caucuses suffered a long delay after a glitch in the app used to report results was only returning partial data. The glitch was fixed, but the Iowa Democratic Party used paper documentation that Iowa caucusgoers used to submit their data to compile accurate data. During a press conference, Sanders thanked Iowa voters for their support. With 97 percent of precincts reporting, the senator said he led the popular initial vote by about 6,000 votes....

In an interview Sunday morning with CNN’s State of the Union, Sanders, who is the incoming Budget Committee Chair, told host Dana Bash that Democrats would pass a reconciliation bill—which is not subject to a filibuster—to rush through federal funding to support economic strain on Americans caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The move comes just as Senate Republicans voiced opposition to President Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package, claiming he designed the program without consulting for bipartisan support....

CNN exit polls in Washington, Michigan, Missouri and Mississippi showed that a significant majority of Democratic voters in each state backed government-run health care as opposed to private insurance. In Washington, 63 percent supported the universal health care plan. In Mississippi it was 60 percent, while 58 percent of voters backed the idea in Missouri and Michigan. Sanders’ Medicare for All proposal would create a government-run health care system and do away with private insurance....

U.S. News and World Report released its annual list of college rankings on Monday morning. Along with a general ranking of the top schools in America, the list offered breakdowns of the best universities in terms of value, innovation, social mobility, undergraduate teaching and veterans. Three of the five top colleges for veterans were located in California. Highly ranked on the Best Colleges for Veterans list, Stanford University, the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and the University of Southern California (USC) were also ranked among the top 25 National Universities....

On Sunday, O’Rourke, a prominent Democrat, narrowed the polling gap between himself and Abbott, according to a survey conducted by the Dallas Morning News and the University of Texas at Tyler. Around 38 percent of respondents said that they would vote for O’Rourke in the general election, while 45 percent said they would vote for Abbott. While the Democrat remained behind, he notably jumped to a single-digit difference from a double-digit one seen in earlier polling....

The poll of 1,200 registered Texans conducted between June 16 and 24, largely before the news of the Court overturning the Roe decision, showed O’Rourke, who lost his bid for the U.S. Senate in a 2018 election against current Republican Senator Ted Cruz, down 6 percentage points to Abbott. In April, Abbott was up 9 points, though that poll did not include Libertarian or Green Party candidates. Abbott’s lead now sits at 45 percent compared to O’Rourke’s 39 percent, while two third-party candidates are each garnering about 2 percent or less....
