Biden’s lead among polled voters in the battleground state comes less than 50 days before November 3’s presidential election, in which more than half—about 62 percent—of respondents told pollsters they plan to vote by mail and 34 percent said they plan to vote in person, either before or on Election Day. A new Reuters/Ipsos poll published on Tuesday found that the president’s approval rating now stands at 41 percent and is at its highest level since early June, while analysis from poll tracker FiveThirtyEight also shows Biden’s popularity improving. Nonetheless, Biden’s approval is still lower than former President Donald Trump’s was at this stage in 2018 — 76 days before the November 6 midterm elections that year. The new Reuters/Ipsos poll comes as Democrats appear to face tough midterm elections and Republicans remain poised to win control of the House of Representatives, though Biden’s party is still slightly favored to retain the Senate....

The White House in September introduced a revised plan to address concerns that developed or persisted during Biden’s first few months in office. While many of the agenda items included within Biden’s initial plan are either in progress or have already been completed, some goals remain unmet. Biden was quick to reinstate the country’s ties to the World Health Organization and ramp up production of vaccines and personal protective equipment, but COVID-19 testing has remained a sticking point, with costs of at-home tests still considered high in comparison to other countries....

While delivering remarks on the economy from Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland on Thursday, Biden pulled out what he said was a list of the GOP lawmakers guilty of the behavior. “Even my Republican friends in Congress, not a single one of them voted for the rescue plan,” the president said, referring to the $1.9 trillion coronavirus package passed in mid-March. “I’m not going to embarrass any one of them but I have here a list of how back in their districts they’re bragging about the rescue plan....

Biden gave a joint press conference with South Korean President Moon Jae-in and said he wanted to achieve “total denuclearization” of the Korean Peninsula. North Korea, a dictatorship led by Kim Jong Un, is a nuclear power. The president said he wouldn’t meet with Kim unless the North Korean leader made a commitment to discuss the nuclear weapons issue. Former President Trump met with Kim three times. “If there was a commitment on which we met, then I would meet with [him],” Biden said....
